Bloodwings can ONLY be produced by purebred breeding. If you cross one out to anything else, including a Tatterwing, you will simply get a Wyrm with a nasty disposition. The special horn shape, blood red wings, etc. can only be produced by pure blooded breeding.
There WILL be a female posted on the forums AFTER FAU. She is done, and will be put up for auction.
They are NOT recommended for novice Handlers. They are a nasty, vicious sub-breed of Tatterwings. We hatched the eggs out of curiosity at the Farm, and to try to bring back a nearly extinct bloodline. This maaaaaaay have been a mistake, but for better of worse, Bloodwings are now a breedable Wyrm.
They have the normal 5 breedings of any Tatterwing, BUT can ONLY produce 1 baby per breeding.....no clutchmates. This is because whichever egg hatches first immediately cannibalizes the other egg to prevent competition for food and territory. Should both eggs hatch at the same time, the hatchlings will fight until one is killed.
Twins CAN happen, it is very rare, but on occasion a single egg hatches two babies. In stark contrast to clutchmates, twins share a very close bond, and often seem to be two halves of a single Wyrm. We suspect they have a degree of telepathy for communication with each other, and if twin Bloodwings are separated, they will become increasingly destructive and violent until either their twin is found, or they are killed.
They are very intelligent, mate for life, and will attack any other Wyrms that invade their territory. Bloodwings seem to have a particular hatred for normal Tatterwings, and are especially cruel to any they come across.
They are strict carnivores, and will refuse any type of fruit or vegetation. Bloods are also capable of a frightening and odd quirk of digestion.....they CAN eat absolutely ANYthing. This includes non food items such as metals, rock, toxic waste....any absolutely any living creature they can fit in their jaws, which are able to dislocate much like a snake's. It is suspected that this ability was taught by the original breeders of this rare offshoot bloodline, and the Bloodwing's favorite companion....the Unseelie fairies known as Redcaps.
Clearly, this is not a cuddly, friendly breed of Wyrm. It is only recommended for experienced Handlers that are aware of time commitment required to raise and care for this breed. Cold iron cages with secure lock are highly suggested, as are multiple pairs of heavy leather gloves like those used in falconry. While not outright poisonous, the bite of a Bloodwing has a nasty tendency to become infected, much like the bite of a Gila Monster. This is likely because of their diet.
Notes: A few notes. This male is going to FAU, though his egg will be a dummy egg to prevent it being obvious. His wings are currently in the pre-tatter stage, and still need to be finished.
