Funny Conversations with Parents about Wyrms

I remember the day I first spotted wyrms, it was a "OMG-MUST-HAVE-ONE" moment. So I ran to Mum and, jumping up and down, asked for one, she was like yeah alright which left me floored. After that day it's been wyrm this and wyrm that, I've been talking about wyrms so much and have had so many conversations about wyrms with Mum and my lil' sister they're beginning to consider banning the word "Wyrm.' That doesn't stop me though, I have a duty to update family members on the happenings of the Wyrmiverse XD.

When I kept seeing these fluffy wormy looking things around ChickenSmoothie I just thought it was another species craze for the time being. But I kept thinking about them and found the Fanclub. Reading the posts and seeing pictures of wyrms, I had to find where they came from. I found the website and just was in awe. The fact that they're handmade and unique individually, plus you can breed them!? I just knew I needed to have my own squirm. Days went by and I would read over everything about them, stalk others wyrms, and join the Fanclub.

I did have trouble asking my mom for one because she's finicky about certain things I'm interested in. She hates that I'm always on ChickenSmoothie and anything I have that deals with the site. The same for deviantart as well. But once the October clutch was posted I sucked it up and showed her a picture of one. I told her about them and asked if I could get one. Of course she looked at me weird and just shook it off, but I told her I could wait till December for the breeding season to get one, which she agreed to. By the time the breeding season came, my mom bought my one wyrm and the money I got for christmas I used for my other wyrm, plus all the shipping and insurance. I made sure that from now on, I'll be helping get some more wyrms and asking for some for birthday and christmas. lol.

I kept showing my nurses about them and they loved them. My brothers just thought I was even weirder for liking wyrms but it wasn't just because they were cute and fluffy critters. I just love how HM takes time out of her day to make these guys and uses her passion for art to make a living with her family. Even though my family thinks I'm nuts for liking wyrms, I'm hoping once I get my two babies they'll come around. But then again, I doubt it. XD

Lol! My first wyrm was a gift...you know what they say about drug dealers? 'The first one's free!'
Since then, I have gotten a bit obsessed about buying new ones, tho not as bad as some of the other members of this club, for sure! (I've only got 4, with one coming from the Winter breeding season)
My husband thinks they are cute, but has no interest in them. If I wanted to build a habitat for them, I'm sure he'd be cool about it. He's a gamer and a SF fan, as well as a comics fan, like me. It is pretty common for fans of this type to have the 'collecting' mind set, so it's not surprising that we tend to get obsessed about the things that we gather.

I really do look forward to getting more wyrms at future cons! (I'm lookin' at YOU, Fur Th' More!)

And yes, I've dreamed about them......

Husband doesn't seem keen on me buying more wyrms, I think he sees my current 2 as 'plenty' for some reason even though I have 4 on the way. He's going to soon realise they will be occupying this room in greater numbers xD

I did tell my mother about them since I spent some christmas money she gave me on them, the only thing she said was 'wassa wyrm?' I think the concept went over her head, and explained them to my brother on skype since he showed his girlfriend my deviantart and she spotted them and wanted to know what they were. Besides that I haven't really spoken to anyone outside of friends about them, idk.. xD

My father met Trixie for the first time today. I tried to keep her from him, since I wasn't sure he'd like that she was the reason I so 'urgently' needed his credit card details (my card doesn't like paypal). But, since I'll be whipping her out of my pocket every time we see something interesting at Kruger, I thought it was best if I explained.

My mother met her when she first arrived, and thought she was 'very sweet', and liked her little face. My dad was a bit baffled, but patted her tentatively and took it in stride. My parents were really surprisingly accepting of her.

My sister, on the other hand... Well, she was just indignant because I got to buy things off the internet!

Hekomi, you have the kind of mum I think everyone wishes for. She sounds seriously awesome! Not only someone who appreciates art, but someone who is supportive of things you enjoy and even wants to share your interest! My own mother is happy for me that I've found something I can do that pays the bills (mostly, kind of) but is still baffled that I don't want to get a "real job" and not have to work so many hours and late nights. >u<'

So much this. My parents are very practical people and don't understand anything that isn't useful. "It just sits there on the shelf! What is it for?"-_-

It did give me a good excuse to do something with my sister though She collects and plays with model horses, so she'll make halters all day so I spent some time with her making wyrm collars.

I was telling my mother (she's 88) about my fun time at AC, getting the wyrms, going to the wyrm meet and such. She wants me to bring over some of my wyrms so she can see them next time I visit. She's legally blind, so I think she will appreciate their softness and the detail of their sculpts.
She also is greatly admiring of the ideas behind the breeding game. She loves clever people, and thinks that the different breeds and their traits is a great idea, and especially so because it is a never-ending way to keep customers for your products!

I love my mom...she is very supportive of me and my art...and even my silly little imaginary friends!

My Mom thinks they are super cute and likes watching me sculpt them. Most of her comments are along the line of how to "Build the business" to "meet the demand." This means that she wants to buy them for all my little cousins and is frustrated that she can't.

I told my mum more of my wyrms would be coming... xD when I came home from school I reorganized my room to make it "more grown up" which involved me taking all these random plushies I had on one shelf off, and turning it into my "wyrm shelf". My mother is unconvinced this is "more grown up".
