Well, I can think of a few reasons to breed down: if you just happen to prefer the tiny size and/or want a certain combination of genes, or can't afford a Standard. ($75 vs $30 is a big jump for some folks) I'm mainly the first category, actually, since I like having tiny things, but I personally wanted at least one 'big' one to wear around and pose looking at things.

Was a little disappointing to find out I wouldn't be able to get tiny Tea-Cups out of my upcoming Standard, though (since the wiki mentioned that transferring details from a big wyrm to a smaller one was harder than vice-versa, I just pictured simplified versions of the bigger sizes), so any time I'd breed him/her it would be another $75 or more.
I suppose this would limit interest in crossbreeding to those who really wanted that larger size, though.
