Strong Brew Hamstery - Baby Hamsters!

Babies are 8 days old and have begun eating solid food. I can tell their colours too, and would be able to tell genders if I could see them more clearly.


Right hand corner, baby is eating a piece of tofu Darissa brought him/her!


This is a baby from the front - this is for sure a girl, as she is a black tort. You can see her face is split down the middle with yellow - almost like the harlequin wyrm gene!

I don't advise taking pictures before eyes are open, since it can stress out mum and babies, but I was able to get a clear shot through the bin, with my iPhone no flash/sound. c:

Yes, tofu is good for them as a protein supplement, along with scrambled egg and a bunch of other stuff. It was adorable watching them eat, as it's the first we have seen of it!

We have our first two escapees! One is a black tort, the other... well s/he looks golden, but I'm wondering if they are in fact yellow, as it is very light for a golden.

I put in some baby food and tofu and Darissa had a nibble and then insanity broke loose!

First a definite golden pup left the nest and was exploring. Many cutes. Darissa was too busy trying to get sunflower seeds from me.

THEN Mini-Darissa (black tort) and Random-Agouti (there are two I'm sure, so this may be the one I saw last night, or a new one?) came out in tandem. Raggie (Random-Agouti) stayed out only for a quick bite, but Mini-Dar was out longer.

Darissa realised and went to go bring Mini-Dar back into the nest, which Mini-Dar would have nothing of. Spunky princess! As she was doing so, Harley-Tort (the very flashy tort) waddled her little bum out and went exploring.

Darissa ditched Mini-Dar, and went after Harley-Tort, who she successfully tucked back into bed. She must have given up, and left Mini-Dar free reign of the food bowl, which she scarfed down before heading back to the nest.

I will never get anything done now.

Yes, Mini-Dar sounds like she is the boss of the litter at the moment! Darissa is a great mum, she's taking more breaks away from the babies now, so I think she'll be okay with be handling them once their eyes are open. She still tries to collect them, but soon she won't be able to, hehe.
