Near threatened. Monarchs require suitable habitat that provides host plants for breeding and flowering plants to provide nectar for adults. In the case of monarchs, the loss of milkweed means the loss of breeding habitat. Loss of milkweed from prime migration routes is primarily due to the dramatic increase in the use of the herbicide resistant crops.

Pangolin - THERES SO MANY THINGs...They're the only known mammal with scales which they use for defense. This also makes them the most trafficked mammal in the world as well as for the pet trade - they walk on their hind legs due to foraging and necessary use for their huge claws

The monarch butterfly is considered near threatened by WWF. There has been a substantial drop in the population and it is estimated that due to habitat loss and climate change they could be quasi-extinct in the next 20 years. However, under the USA CITIES they are not currently protected.

Adding to the Monarch,

They are a species of special concern in Ontario which means its not threatened but it could possibly become threatened. Habitat loss and fragmentation are the key factors to the threatening of the species. Pesticides and other herbicides are also a cause to downward population.

A neat fact with the Monarch is it actually does a 2 way migration like that of birds. However unlike most butterflies which can overwinter through cold in the form of cocoons monarchs can't.
So these little guy travel huge distances (sometimes up to 3,000 km) and they actually have generations within migration!

Monarchs have a lot of look a likes!! Viceroys are very similar to Monarchs and it takes a trained eye to pick them out when doing butterfly surveys with a crowd of people who expect answers right then and quick

Pangolin Wyrm

Unfortunately, the Pangolin has the title of the most trafficked mammal. They are taken for their meat and their use in traditional Chinese medicine, and there have been numerous situations where tons of Pangolins have been seized in international wildlife busts.

(Edit: Just a random interesting fact though - they are incredibly rare to see in captivity (zoos or other conservation institutions) due to many factors. Their diet is terribly hard to replicate correctly. (They don't have any teeth, either!) In the States, the only captive Pangolin in a US zoo recently passed away - I don't think any remain.)

Nin, correct! Pangolin are also sadly used in traditional Chinese medicine, much like shark fins or rhino horns.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I'm definitely going to do more animal mules, and have trivia like this to expand our awareness, wrinkle our brains, and hopefully make folks aware of issues they may not have known about! Yay for fluffy education.
I think I'm also going to do the trivia a wee bit differently next time, most comprehensive answers rather than the 1st answers. I feel like there were a couple really good ones, that deserve honorable mentions!

Wooo boy. Alrighty, Anthrocon dealer registration just went live, and between that and the car repair a bit ago I'd reerally like to shuffle some money towards this month's credit card payment. Thus, I am going to open for ONE totally custom Teacup Wyrm, to be sculpted via Tigerdile stream during Furpoc weekend. I had planned on streaming with Shadra one of the nights anyway, so it won't interfere with bred baby work. Here's the deal...

This is an auction, and will be open for bids from now until Wednsday night at 6pm. At that time I will do last call for bids, and if there are no last minute bids, will announce the winning bid and schedule a night to stream, depending on what works best for the winner.

A few rules.
1) Bidding starts at $50
2) The custom Wyrm will be a Mule, UNLESS bidding goes to 250$ or more.
3) If bidding reaches or exceeds 250$, the winning bidder may chose any existing Breed, or a Hybrid of existing Breeds. Hybrids may NOT be existing Farm projects without that Farm owner's permission.
4) If by some miracle bidding reaches 350$ or higher, I will create a baby version of the Wyrm to go with the adult sized one.
Umm....not sure what else to offer. I don't expect things to go this high, but y'all have surprised me before, so just in case.
5) If bidding hits $500, I will make a mated pair, male and female, of your chosen Wyrm design, complete with baby. So a full Wyrm family unit.
