Celestine...you can write as many as you please, but can only ENTER one fic for consideration in the contest, so you'd have to chose what you think is your best.
Teslas in general love all things technological, be it old tech or new shiny toys. Tarnished have a particular love for the older stuff, and actually have quite a bit in common with the Scrap Metal breed. They love to scrounge and salvage, and take great pride in 'rescuing' damaged items to repair or create new things. Tarnished also have a unique ability that makes them particularly valuable to their handlers....they can remove rust and tarnish from metallic items, simply by licking them. Their abrasive tongues scour any dirty or rusted metal, and for some unknown reason their saliva acts almost like metal polish. I've yet to see a metal they can't clean to look like new. As near as I can tell, its a favorite snack, and helps them maintain a glossy, inky black coat of fur. I know Umbra's fur starts to look a tad washed out and paler black if I don't let her rummage around in the recycling bin every now and again. Obviously, they highly value antique toys or items that have gone 'unloved' by its original owner, and such things are common courtship gifts.
Now that I think about it, that might be why Umbra spends so much time in the basement with my husband's boxes of childhood jun....err.......stuff.
Aching,
There's nothing written, not publicly anyway, but I can give you some basic details to go on.
Mucus, notsomuch. :p The thing to remember is Wyrms are, from a canon standpoint, not so much animals/beasts, as they are ethereal beings made flesh and fur. The idea behind them is that Wyrms are, quite literally, nature spirits made solid. The very basic answer is most Wyrms will take traits and habits from their environment. It's why Infected are so horrid.....they are Wyrms hat have been tainted and warped by pollution or harm to their home. Think of them a bit like a classic Dryad.....whos health and well being is ties to their tree. Wyrms clearly have the ability to roam and range far away from their original hatching place, but will almost always be drawn to reside someplace that reminds them of home. Hence,Mountain Wyrms tend to prefer rocky or sandy places, with little caves or burrows to hide in....Forest Wyrms like trees and green and nature....Domestic Canines are at home pretty much wherever 'Their Human' is, and are generally well tempered and easy to please, whereas the Wild Canines vary widely depending on their specific breed. Wolves are definitely pack animals, so there's that to consider.
Bloodwings are........difficult to describe.
The best I can offer is they are the darkest of the known Fairy Wyrms, and hands down, the most dangerous. They literally EAT magic/energy, (in addition to any and all meat they can get their teeth into) and thus if given half an opportunity drain their fellow fae Wyrms of magic before consuming their wings. When a fairy Wyrm is drained of their magic, and their wings are removed, they simply fade from the physical plain and become little more than ghostlike whisps of their previous self. Sometimes they fade entirely, as of they never existed. Its one of the things that makes Bloodwings so terribly dangerous, as they are THE only Wyrm breed known to feed in such a manner. Wyrms are normally eternal, so long as they can 'recharge' by being in or around nature for periods at a time. But a Wyrm who's magic or essence is devoured by a Bloodwing may as well have died, as none have ever been known to regain enough energy to reform their physical 'shell'. (Those cute, fluffy bodies we all know and love to cuddle)
Their courtship displays typically involve offerings of their favorite food (see above), and they prefer such food alive and wriggling. The one time we hatched the blood eggs on the farm, the rookery building next to the shed was filled with young Wyrms and nesting mothers. I was checking on everyone and doing my last rounds for the night, and could instantly tell the first Blood egg had hatched. The rookery was filled with terrified Wyrms, who could smell the newcomer in the next building, and it almost seemed as though the baby Bloodwing was feeding off their fear, even separated from the general populace. To this end they make me think a bit of the old legends of will I wisps, who would lead travelers into swamps to drown, and feed off their last moments of terror.
We have since built a nesting area for the few Bloodwings we kept, on the very edge of the Farm property. It is ringed with a cold iron fence, and is protected by numerous wards. We usually draw straws to see who's turn it is to go feed them. :/
The most important thing to remember is ALWAYS carry something cold iron on you if handling or interacting with them. And know that no Fairy Wyrm is safe. The Bloods are tenacious in their desire for magic. They are also coldly calculating, and wickedly intelligent. Clutchmates are completely unknown, as the first that hatches ALWAYS consumes the slower, 'weaker' sibling.
