I'm lucky enough that I got Thanksgiving off and we don't have black friday In Canada, but my heart goes out to all of you that have to work it. It is never fun to have to deal with the insanity that is the holidays. I've been down into the states for one black Friday in my life and let me tell you...I have no idea how you guys can put up with it.

I'd just like to state for the record, that neither I nor the hubby will be participating in ANY shopping on Thanksgiving Day. I support retail employees right to spend the holidays with their families, without risking losing their jobs. This sucks kai and I'm really sorry. Same goes for any others stuck working "meatgrinder weekend" (aka thanksgiving through black Friday)

Yea- for most people who work retail Black Friday/thanksgiving are MANDATORY work days. Aka unless your on the hosipitial, dying, giving birth, or have family that's dying.. Your arse better be at work.

Who the hell is even SHOPPING on Thanksgiving in the evening?! They oughta stuff themselves and go unconscious like the rest of us...

Yeah, I work at Michaels (a chain craft store) and this year they're open Thanksgiving from 4pm-2am. I have no idea why they think this is a good idea. My best guess is someone in corporate went "Well other big chain stores are doing it, so we can do it to!", never mind that the "other stores" are mainly department stores with a whole lot more variety to offer, and more highly desired products. But thankfully I don't have to work at all during Black Friday weekend this year, because I also work at a library Friday-Sundays, so I told the store I'm not available weekends.

I could choose to work on Thanksgiving (they ask for volunteers instead of drafting people for the job) since my parents will be away on Thanksgiving and we'll be having our big family dinner on Saturday instead. The pay would be good, since the company is required to pay time-and-a-half (translation: 50% more than your usual hourly salary), but I kind of refuse to work on Thanksgiving, just on principle. The library's also closed, so I'll stay home, cook a nice dinner, and relax.

My boss is getting old and tends to want to stick his nose into everything, even when it isn't necessary. Often times, this results in him freaking out over things that there is no point in freaking out about.

This is a rough transcript of what just happened to me at work.

Boss: So, the |website|'s reports aren't working?
Me: Yes. I'm working with |coworkers| to resolve the problem.
Boss: So we're doing training on |website| and we're going to put it into production with the reports not working?
Me: No. We won't move it to production until we get this figured out.
Boss: But we don't want them going a long time between training and using |website|.
Me: It will already be into January of 2015 before we move it.
Boss: Does |main user| know that?
Me: Yes.
Boss: I'm going to call and make sure he knows that.
Me: Really. He knows about it. I told him when we discussed training dates. It doesn't make sense to try to move |website| to production when no one will be here to support it during the last two weeks of the year.
Boss: I'm going to call anyways.
Me: Look, here is an email, where he writes in big red letters to EVERYONE that the system will not be put into place until after New Years but that he wants people trained before then.
Boss: Oh.

P.S. This came out of what was supposed to be a quick question before I went to lunch, and now I'm over 40 minutes late to go get food. *mutter*

Ah I so wanted to work thanksgiving. Only Bc it go by quickly I have coworkers I like that be there and well I get ot

But we got bought by a new company. And said to stay home with family. Well I hope my car fix in timeso I can see family.
Beside that I never like thanksgiving. Anytime with family itwas a pain people complain then it like time for bed at 8 at night so they wake up for BF and its was me alone playing my gameboy. Like ok way to spend time and clean up trying to fit it all in the frige. Was like a puzzle.

I rather work that way a plate was made for me when I came home and it was clean up. People sleeping

Then as I got older like why we celabate something where people help gather food and we kill them and take there land. So I think Sunday or dinners together are better then one day where ur almost forse to spend time when everyday would be it. Or fist more family more often.

And then after still be awake to talk maybe I just miss my mom
more around the holladays. And I rather work so.
