Breed Revamps

There are two breeds production staff is noodling over that may be undergoing 'evolutions' in the near future. One is the Spiny Puffer, which would be a minor revamp. The other is a Breed that has consistantly been a seemingly unpopular Breed, the Jewel Horn.

So I'm opening the floor for suggestions. Are there traits or face shapes that the community would be interested in seeing the Jewel Horn evolve into?

Feel free to chime in with suggestions. All I ask is that y'all remember theyvare an Uncommon and not a Rare. ;3

I always kind of liked the older design of jewel horn like my girl Cupric is:

What if you kept the stripe down their nose like you have now but put the big dots on top of the stripe and maybe varied the jewel placement to different dots? Alphas could perhaps have multiple jewels?

I think that the Jewel Horn is very similar to Plumed Gem Hunters in terms of horn placement, jewel placement, and plating placement (though not shape). They also seem to have similar face shapes. (Example: Image vs Image). Obviously, the major difference between them is plume and spiral type horns (rather than flat type). Also rarity.

I'd agree with Aurorous that maybe a gem/stripe relocation/modification or additional gems may differentiate the breeds. Maybe have crystallin-ey horn effects (since they are 'jewel' horns) or another feature be more crystallin-ey (maybe crystal eyes)?

i agree with Genepi and Aurorous in the fact that the jewel horns do kind of resemble a few of the other breeds, i think varying them up a little bit will certainly help their popularity!

its nothing special, but this is the first thing that came to mind for them
Image
a lot of the crystal breeds seem like they're meant to be more delicate, so with a longer and narrower snout, i feel like the Jewel horns will fit into that category while still looking different from existing breeds. The spot markings are a mix of both the older styled snout strip that they used to have and the current solid stripe.
Image
i imagine they meet in the middle like this to form a marking that doesnt quite reach all the way down the muzzle, but is significantly longer than the other markings.
As for horns, i'm especially fond of the shorter ones that the Jewel Horns had for a little bit, My girl Avalon has the SHINIEST horns and i love them to bits! i'd love to see those make a comeback!

Alphas and Omegas could have additional or fewer crystals and fancier or less stunning spotted markings, respectively~

Looking at that design I think it might be a bit much to fit on a tiny head. Especially with the breed being an uncommon. I just forsee it becoming like growler ears where it ends up being a regret. Maybe if we simplified it a little?

I completely love years suggestion!!
I'm on my phone at the moment but once I'm home from work I'll elaborate on why I agree so much

Since the name is jewel horn, I would focus mainly on what the breed is particularly supposed to be attributed to. Perhaps we need some sort of unique horn type on this wyrm? AKA the shiny horns in some sort of shape or style unique to them, or a mixing of the shiny stuff through the horn, as if the horns contained precious stone themselves?

Also the possible idea for some sort of crystalline eyes/third eye? Perhaps crystalline heterochromia? Or perhaps even a third 'horn' of sorts which is actually a gem? (though I can see this being problematic to secure)

I think if those sort of bold traits were put with a simplified head design, it would make them stand out. I agree that a longer face would be better suited to maintain crystal wyrm style.

Just my two pence on it anyhow.

See, I actually really like the Jewel Horns, but I'll echo Genepi's statement that they are sorta similar to Gem Hunters and I prefer their spirally horns and feather plume. All things being equal, I'd choose to keep a PGH over a Jewel Horn right now, because of that.

What if their horns were stubbier, and maybe the forehead gem got moved to the nose, like a triceratops's third horn, so there's a literal jewel for a horn? I like Year's eye-circle idea too, a bit like the eye rings on a female Fu, though I agree that the rest might be a little complex for an Uncommon.
