GENERAL Wyrm discussion

Figure I would post a topic just for general Wyrm chatting, nothing specific.

I removed some posts from auction just to de-clutter the thread and keep it to bids, but thank you to those commenting that they like the fantail. GT, thank you, the feathers worked splendidly!

Sandy, it would be amazing! Honestly, it's not going to happen on a Standard. There just isn't enough room, not to get the gears to show up properly. Even the peacock feather eye in the fantail doesn't 'register' like I'd hoped it would, the body is simply too narrow for a wide circle shape to show up well, particularly using long pile fur. Now, a Great Wyrm or Leviathan, sure! The side to side body width is much bigger, and would allow for something like that.

Tyr, nah, no crying here. I'm not crazy enough to try that sort of pattern on a general Wyrm. If I did gears on a tesla, it would be a Great or Levi Tesla, and you can be DARN sure that baby would be an auction. I've chatted with suit makers who have attempted to sew gears before, and the horrific tales of madness and weeping have convinced me to neeeeeeever try such a thing on a flat rate Wyrm. Got to make sure I can pay for the psychiatrist and padded room when the bloody thing is done, right? ;D

Sewing gears, sculpting gears... all sounds crazy! The fantail is GORGEOUS though, and if Tomkins and I weren't investing our money into our hamstery, I'd want to bid like nobodies business!

I really meant a gear pattern on the Sculpy face, not on the fur. I would never suggest you go crazy enough to attempt THAT!
I know that you are going for texture on the heads of your Standards (and bigger), like the lace pattern you did on one recently, and that is what I was thinking of.
Goodness, sculpting the fur, like you did on Big Q, would be nuts!

Ohno, no tears. :-)

I was thinking along the lines of full-size clock mechanisms anchor-stitched to the body, but that might cause some serious snagging problems if one tried to wear or even handle their wyrm. S'all good, just being a silly Tyrr.

Aaaaall teh hammers. Pretty soon they will start befriending your Wyrms, Komi, and then you will be truly outnumbered by cute fluff and at the mercy of your fuzzy friends, lol

OHHHHhhhhhh!!
Well, yeah, of course! What else would a tesla have for face texture? ;D
I have sooooo many clock parts that look neat, the first standard Tesla I do in the new style is gonna be all manner of fun!

Yeah, thats the same problem I'd have if I just sewed gears on top of the fur for my GearWyrm head....would snag on stuff, and really just kinda look tacked on/not a true part of the whole thing, yanno?

So this seems as good a place as any to post this. Question to the Handler community.

Given the backlog of Wyrms in the registry, and our poor Scribe almost literally drowning in Wyrm cards, how would folks feel if we continued with the printed cards for con wyrms, and the digital for bred wyrms, BUT, had uncolored line art for purebred Wyrms and default line art for things like Hybrids, Wyverns, etc. Basically making it so that each and every Wyrm being registered doesn't need entirely new card art to be drawn or cobbled together out of existing card art. Because that is exactly what our long suffering Zia has been doing, and as the game has grown exponentially, the workload has tripled and quadrupled in size.

I've just finished the new default art for Wyverns, Hybrids, Chains, and Tesla hybrids. I'm looking at doing default art for Nightmares and Fairy hybrids too. Basically anything that is a crossbreed or the look is so individual to each Wyrm. We have multiple artists on the forums who offer fully custom art for those so inclined. And when the game was 50-100 wyrms TOTAL, it was easy enough to keep up. But the reality is things have grown to the point where some streamlining is necessary if we want to keep things moving.

So, thoughts? Does this seem like a reasonable compromise? Cards will still be done for each Wyrm, and will have art, just not individually colored and drawn for every single Wyrm, because it's no longer practical.

I'd be fine with having uncolored line art on my wyrm's card. One default image for each of the core varieties would make things much simpler. Honestly, I'm more interested in wyrm cards for the breeding statistics than the artwork.

For people that like the art on their cards, maybe have an option to submit art to be copy/pasted into the card? Having coloring pages available on the wiki for each variety would make it easy for people to color their own cards.

It's funny, I've actually been debating taking the wyrm art and making a little digital "coloring book" available online for those wanting to try out color variations. I'll see about gathering the files.
