Cave Flitters
With lace: http://art.unykness.com/images/examples ... ed-02a.jpg
About the Breed:
Cave Flitters are a timid breed, though very social amongst themselves. Long ago, they made their homes in the depths of cave systems and rarely (if ever) saw the light of day. With few predators, and little light, they had no need for defensive structures such as horns or plating, or pigmentation. They did, however, need something with which to lure their prey and identify each other from a distance. Thus, they evolved bright, bioluminescent patches to serve both purposes.
As they fly through their subterranean homes, they use all of their senses to avoid obstacles, including a sort of primitive echolocation. Little is known of their origins, but they have been found to be inquisitive, if easily spooked at first. Though once they bond with their colony (or a handler), they are very affectionate. All in all, these little ones make wonderful companions for the night-active handler. Though.. not -too- active. Feel like staying in on Saturday night, reading a good book until 4am? Your Flitter will be right there with you. It helps that they act like a little bug-zapper, too, on warm summer nights.
Planning:
With the addition of trait and color charms to the project, things have become an awful lot simpler. Hopefully. ^.^;; I'll be trying to use wyrms with colored eyes (€) to establish that trait in the breed, but If it doesn't work I won't be too upset. :)
Generation Planning:
Going to be working with Jiao x Crinkler (wings and plume req) and Growler x Mossy (ears and glowspot req) babies to start. We'll need four of each of those, regardless of color (though whites are preferred in the growler/mossy lines, and white-with-colored-accents in jiao/crinkler lines), and then we can start breeding them in pairs to get all the desired traits on one 'perfect' wyrm. Once we have four of those 'perfect' wyrms, we can breed down further to get to the third generation. :D Here's hoping the glowspot passes down from mossy parents, and it doesn't take too many breedings to get the listed -and- unlisted traits to work out! *cross fingers~*
Family Planning!

Pared down to 15 breedings (less than half of what I had in the original plan)! Woo! I may be able to do this in my lifetime! XD I'll plug parents into the plan as they produce offspring that are viable for the project.
Planned Breedings:
Nob'cobi x Tanma (summer 2013) (negating - no ears, has horn... but she does have a white body and colored accents! It can be done! :D)
Harley x Chinook's Blackcurrant Solitaire (spring 2014) (traits: wings XX, plume XX)
SQUIRREL x Marimo (winter 2014) (traits: ears XX, plating --)
Possible Breedings:
Icarus x ??? (traits: wings XX, plume XX)
??? x Flit (traits: wings XX, plume XX)
Haint x ??? (traits: wings XX, plume XX)
Ajax x Chlorosia (traits: ears XX, plating --)
Dronble x Mauna (traits: ears XX, plating --)
Rhia x Fischel? (traits: ears XX, plating --)
Population Expanders: (not done during farm seasons, but at random during normal seasons <3)
Spite x Mael (tokens: color rryybb) - (winter 2014; planning to name the baby 'Haint' <3)
Approved Wyrms:
(I have spoken with their handlers and received the green light to borrow at some point <3)
Icarus (m, jiao) -- Briar
Mauna (f, growler) -- Poprock
Flit (m, crinkler) -- Tyr
Chinook's Blackcurrant Solitaire (f, jiao) -- Tora
Loralye (f, crinkler) -- Shy - needs +1 charm (TRADED TO KAI)
Kataba (m, growler) -- Vampy
Ajax (m, growler) -- Hekomi
Rhia (f, growler) -- Hekomi
Tarryn (f, growler) -- Vampy
Vardon (m, growler; nob'cobi's son) -- Vampy
Dronble (m, moss hoarder) -- Vampy
Chlorosia (f, moss hoarder) -- Genpei
Navaroni (m, jiao) -- Genpei
Montegaz (m, growler) -- Genpei
Handler Offers:
(handlers who have offered their wyrms to the project <3)
Shadra (Growlers)
Hekomi (Growlers, maybe Jiao? Maybe crinkler?? *hopeful*)
Poppeh (Growler?)
Smoke-the-Wolf (Growler)
Briar (Jiao, others on the way~)
Updates/Thoughts:
Pared down some things... just gonna go with the head-plume instead of the tail plume. Both to help keep the number of babies I'll be planning down, and also because Jiao-di wyrms are less rare. And have no plating (which is a thing I'm trying to get rid of anyway XD). ^.^;;; I wonder if, when this becomes an established breed, plume placement can be gender-determinate.. Probably not, but it'd be cool! XD
Also, I talked to HMS about the glow in lace genetics... there is potential! 8D SO EXCITE.
It'd be nice to get the basic white base of the Qui-lin and Jiao-di with their color genetics controlling only the accents. I wonder if I can get it! :D
-EDIT: After some digging, it looks as though any hybrid of Qui/Jiao would more than likely have a colored base. Darn. Maybe if I tried crossing Jiao back into the breed after establishing all the other traits... *ponder* We'll see how my Tanma x Nob'cobi baby turns out. *cross fingers for white base!*
Clearly there is a whole lot of breeding in there. x.x I think I need help. XD Anyone interested in broadening the Crinkler population? 8D
for my own records:
Tora is in for a crinkler clutchmate as of 03/21/14 <3!
