History:
Mogwai were once believed to be spirits of nature, protecting places of ancient power from human interference. These stories are not too far from the truth. Mogwai are a territorial breed which tend to fiercely guard areas that they have claimed. They prefer mountain regions and tend to live near human ruins or within dense forests. Mogwai are social and pack-oriented, but do not tend to look fondly upon outsiders in the wild. They are unusual to find in a domestic household.
Mogwai are often misunderstood, at first, as their protective nature may make them seem aggressive, despite a docile nature within their own squirms. Due to the time it takes to form a proper bond with these creatures and earn their trust, they are not seen as a beginner breed. They prefer the company of other Mogwai, but will tolerate being housed with Zhong Lung breeds as well as most Growlers. They have been known to befriend High Mountain growlers, although Alphas of that breed who try to push into their territory are often met with the might of the entire squirm. During breeding seasons, Mogwai may allow more unusual company, and will often protect mates and offspring fiercely from other predators.
While outsiders may not understand the Mogwai, they are usually affectionate, docile, and protective of a handler and squirm who earns their trust. They are the stalwart defenders of other Wyrms and can fit in amongst mixed-member squirms so long as there have been proper introductions and a bonding period.
Mogwai have a rivalry with the Gremlin breed. These two must be housed separately as fights will inevitably break out between these breeds. There have also been rumors of a mythical black Mogwai (Pitch Black) who once terrorized the mountains. The old tales say it was fed after midnight by an unwary handler... but that can't be true, right?
Breeder Notes:
Mogwai are similar to Growlers in personality, but perhaps a bit more squirm/territory based than some. The rougher elements are softened a bit by the ancient inclusion of Zhong Lung breeds in their blood lines. Mogwai are named for the Chinese legend in which they are seen as evil spirits, but our story sets them out as guardians of nature and ancient places.

- Floppy Ears: xx, xX, XX (Visible)
- Plume: xx, xX, XX (Visible - Jiao-Di style)
- Qui-lin facial scales, brow-dots
- Zhong Lung facial features (Rounded nose and slit nostrils)
- Gray-stone face, white body preferred (white-stone and gray body may also be acceptable)
Ideal Individuals: (nice, but not required -- Alpha traits)
- Should have some sort of facial marking: Benign White, Lace, Pitch Black, Ink Spot, etc.
- Should have Jiao-Di cheek-spots
- Display teeth/fangs
