Wyrm cross stitched bookmarks
Please note: the designs of these bookmarks heavily reference the official CDF art from wyrm info cards. I did not make the original art, though I designed the version used as a bookmark pattern. HMS has graciously allowed me to sell bookmarks based on the card art. If anyone wishes to confirm this, please ask her.
Now, some of you may have seen the cross stitched bookmarks I make as Secret Santa presents for ShyCrestedGirl and Shadraavo (dragon forum names, not sure if they use the same ones here). For those who have not, you can view them here: (click to see). When the owners shared them on the dragon forum, other people expressed interest in commissioning some from me. So with HMS's permission, I'm setting up shop here.
In the interest of keeping things as transparent as possible so HMS knows I'm not using her art in a way she does not approve of, I'll be conducting all sales matters in this thread, aside from personal details like shipping addresses and payment details, which would be taken to PMs.
Technical details about the bookmarks:
They're sewn on 18-count Aida cloth (18 squares per inch) using mainly DMC embroidery floss (along with possibly some floss of unknown origin I found in my craft supplies). Each bookmark has a backing of fleece or felt to help protect the stitching. You can see a clear example of how I sew the backing on here: (click again). I leave the cloth on the top and bottom as a short fringe, after sewing a line firmly across the fabric to keep it firm unraveling further. The bookmarks are, on average, about 2 inches wide and 6 inches long.
Pricing:
(Pricing is tentative at the moment, it may change later as I get a better idea how long these things take me.)
-For wyrms of a similar complexity to Shy and Shadra's that have white as a base color, I'd like to charge $40. With white fluff I can leave the base cloth to represent the main color, which saves time.
-For wyrms of a similar complexity with any color other that white as a base, I'd charge $50. Sewing in the rest of the fluff takes a while, which is part of the reason I didn't make this Crema bookmark for Shy. (Also I couldn't find the right shades of brown.)
-For wyrms of a significantly greater complexity, such as one with large extra features like wings, I'd charge more based on how much more time I think it would take me to make.
-I'm currently undecided as to whether I would do wyverns. I'd have to see one someone wants before I can decide if I'd be able to do it.
-These can fit inside a normal letter envelope, so shipping cost is only the price of a postage stamp, which I won't charge for if I'm shipping within the USA. I'm perfectly willing to ship outside the USA as well, but I'd have to check what postage would be. Depending how much it would come to, I might charge shipping for international orders.
How to order:
-Post here with which wyrm you'd like me to make, along with reference pictures (their registry page is probably easiest.)
-I will respond here with a confirmation that I received your request, along with the price it would cost. Then I'll draw up a pattern and post it for your approval. If there's something you're dissatisfied with, I will make changes as needed and repost until you're satisfied.
-Once a design has been agreed upon, I will PM you for your shipping address and to discuss payment information. I will not charge at this time. Paypal would be the easiest way to pay, but I am willing to discuss other options.
-Once I have your information, I will start sewing.
-When the bookmark is finished, I'll post a finished picture (or PM, if you request it) and request payment. Once I receive the payment, I'll mail you your bookmark.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask.
