Trait Charms

I just want to clarify how trait charms work. Gonna describe with a hypothetical situation because it's easier. Say I want to breed my two wyrms Iroh and Grainne. Neither of them are carriers of the lace trait. Could a trait charm allow me to have the offspring be either XX or xX for lace, or would one or both of the parents have to be carriers? I know for color charms the color you choose must be a possible outcome from the parents and I was unclear as to whether or not it worked the same with trait charms.
