What is a Plumed Nighthunter?
Commonly referred to simply as a Hunter or Nighthunter, they are a breed of wyrm related to both plumed gemhunters and tatterwings.

Breed standard is a dark coloured body (ranging from midnight blue to black), gem hunter plates/horns/crystal, tatterwing facial structure/teeth/wings, and glow markings. Larger individuals most often display tatterwing slitted-eyes as well. They MUST display a plume. Individual markings may vary a lot.

Nonstandard traits include tatterwing horns and any markings such as benign white or lace. This is to avoid cluttered appearances. There is no preference concerning marbled or solid head colours. Tatterwing above-eye plates are often accepted but are not standard.

Tentative Genetic listing
Horns (XX gem hunter horns)
Underbite (XX)
Wings (Xx) (potentially XX if trait charm becomes necessary)
Plating (XX)
Crystal (XX)
Plume (XX) (trait charm manipulation, default is xx)

Breed Temperament:
Nighthunters are a challenge for handlers and many inexperienced individuals find them near intolerable. They inherit all mischievousness from a tatterwing with the hoarding tendencies of a plumed gemhunter. They have a weakness for shiny objects, particularly gems, and can be coaxed into behaving with practice. A warning: They have lots of snaggly teeth. Handle with care.

General personality is a shiny loving trickster with attitude. Often nervous around others, tendency to hide in dark unseen places, and a nasty bite when provoked.

Breed Information:
In the wild, a Plumed Nighthunter is most easily located in dark, unexpected locations. The space between buildings by a bug zapper, a nook between large stones out in a thick forest, etc. Nighthunters come out only at night. This is mostly to hunt their favourite food, moths. Being attracted to light, Nighthunters have adapted to be able to lure them in with their own glowing markings. For the most part, Nighthunters are individual hunters. They do not take well to crowded places. They may become aggressive. This aggression is best known by the distinctive hissing the breed makes which is similar to an alligator’s. Handlers, learn the warning quickly!

Reserving this for future breedings/etc.

Basically consider this a scratch papery breed planning thread until it is actually executed. It's also an interest thread. If you are looking for a project to involve yourself in and find this a good concept then feel free to join in.
