Starter Squirm
This was a random idea that i wrote for fun. I'd love any feedback you are willing to give, I'm not sure if I will continue this or not at the moment. Please feel free to give me tips on where to improve. Thanks and enjoy -Auri

Patience paid off. Isabella decided as she overlooked her new territory. Sunlight filled the room. Warm among her squirm. Isabella was reluctant to move.
Beside her Mac stirred awaking from his sleep. Isabella meeped at him and squiggled over to give him room. Mac yawned. He nuzzled her affectionately. Isabella allowed it. She was bigger then the bright red Leaf crawler. Mac had no interest in fighting her for the territory or in being her mate. The third of the squirm shifted as the smaller wryms moved. Varric the silver pipefox uncurled his body allowing the others to leave the protective circle of his body. Isabella did not consider Varric a threat to her either. The larger wrym Merped at her as she squirmed by him.
Isabella chirped back at him. She was the queen of this squirm. Varric was well suited to protect her while she slept. The pipe fox was both Parent and chief soldier to the little grey mountain wrym. Mac squirmed along behind her. Her closest friend Mac was not going to be left behind. Varric watched them and recoiled his body. His silver blue eyes closed as the Wrym decided to sleep a little longer. Isabella decided not to make him wake up. He would certainly hear her if she called for him.
Isabella’s territory was exactly the right size for three young Wryms and Isabella found her clutch mates well suited to her. It had taken a little over a day to convince her recently adopted handler to get her a partner to patrol the home she was going to control. In the end her handler had gotten two males to assist her. By virtue of having had access to the handler for longer then the boys, Even if it was just one night. Isabella made herself the leader. She let other handlers think the fierce looking Varric was in command while she accessed their squirms for potential problems. Mac being a brighter color then the rest. Worked well as a distraction for both Strange squirms and handlers. Isabella like attention but she didn’t care for crowds or strangers.

Varric watched his handler. She’d been behaving strangely the last few days and now she pulled a strange box in to his territory. He unwound from his nest leaving the smaller members of the squirm to meep in complaint after him. He ignored them for now. He had seen a box like this before. He’d left the Farm where he had hatched in one. Were more wryms within the container, Newly hatched and seeking a handler? He pulled himself up and peered over the side. He studied the contents as his handler pulled a fuzzy red hat from the box. She noticed him as he Chirped a question to her and smiled. She ran a gentle hand along his body. “You want to help me decorate Varric?” the pipe fox made his way up to her shoulder and pressed his cold nose against her neck causing her to laugh. “I’m taking that as a yes.”
Varric lay coiled along his handlers neck. Supervising the decorating of the house. Strange fake green leafs were wrapped around windows. Garland his handlers mate called it. Along with small bright colored lights and a sort of white spray paint from a bottle labeled SNOW.A small tree made its way onto the top of a bookshelf. His handler wrapped lights and brightly colored objects around it. A row of colored socks lay beside it. Isabella and Mac, having followed him, made happy chirps as they played amid the rolls of thin colored paper and ribbons that had been set aside. Wrapping paper the handler had called it. A few boxes already wrapped in the stuff gave Varric a basic understanding of its intended use. Deciding that the smaller wryms needed supervision Varric made his way to them. Somehow he didn’t think that their handler would appreciate it if they tore the thin material in their game. A firm Growl settled Mac down, Isabella required a reprimanding but gentle nip. The little mountain growler settled down with obvious reluctance.
Mac meeped drawing his attention. The Leafcrawler had his nose in the air sniffing excitedly. Varric lifted his head and inhaled. His eyes widened with delight at the new scent. Varric did a quick check to verify that their handler was still occupied with her task. Satisfied that she was focused on getting the lights properly secured. Varric led his squirm mates toward the source of the smell. The humans kitchen had held many strange things over the time he’d been here. But this was new. A tiny house made from a sweet smelling brown substance. It was decorated with odd colored objects. Mac who usually lingered at the back of the Squirm moved forward. Isabella meeped at him. concern in her dark eyes. Mac crept closer to the object and sniffed again. The leaf crawler licked at one of the odd decorations. He Chirped in delight and turned to let his squrim mates know it was safe. Isabella move toward him at once. Varric remained still for a moment. Proud of the bravery that the leaf crawler had shown in making sure it was safe for them. Their squirm was still new to all of them and Mac had seemed to lack in confidence about his place with them. Varric Nuzzled the red wrym in approval before biting into the brown house himself. Their handler found them their with the remains of her Gingerbread house. Varric licked icing from his jaws. Isabella and Mac, their bellies full had fallen asleep beside him. Mac had crumbs on his muzzle and Isabella had icing on her ears. Gentle hands lifted the smaller wryms from him. Varric wrapped himself along her arm. The handler settled them back in the nest Varric had claimed on his first night. Varric coiled around his little friends. Providing them with warmth as they slept. The handler stroked his fur gently. “Get some sleep Buddy, we’ll put up the yard decorations tomorrow.” Varric laid his head down and purred until he fell asleep.
