Unfortunately I only got to take photos of Almandine three times: first is in front of the "tokonoma" inside our room at my cousin's family's ryokan (traditional Japanese inn), second is at Sensōji Temple in Asakusa on New Year's Day (evening), and third is at Gotokuji Temple (famous for being the temple at which the maneki neko legend began). The pics with the giant pile of kitties is an area at the temple where people bring back their cats to 'retire' when they have done their job, i.e. brought luck/wishes/love that the owner was hoping for.

Had to leave Almandine at my folks' place in Hawaii when I left (too much stuff to haul to FC) so hopefully will be able to take some Hawaii pics with Almandine in April when I go back.

Oh thanks you guys! Japan was great! I just wish I had had a little more down time to relax and take some more wyrm pics. I have a lot of touristy pics of us and the stuff we saw (and Ross has a video of me in the back of a fishing boat feeding seagulls that are flying behind us) but it was too busy to pull Almandine out of my backpack and shoot her with stuff. And/or I was concerned about damage, or bothering people by standing in the middle of things with this giant puffy white thing.

I did get a few doubletakes while I was wearing her around, though (the convenience of a scarf-doll...although since it was in the 50s-60s there I was honestly kind of sweating a bit at times). Mostly explained her as a handmade kirin-dragon. One lady thought I had a cat around my neck at first, and one thought she was somehow alive.

Delightful pictures!
I know your pain on taking pics of your precious wyrm in public...lots of risk involved! I manage to get shots of my wyrms on trips, but sometimes drive my hubby crazy as I stop everywhere to take that special shot.
It is especially hard to get good shots of a tiny wyrm in front of a huge building, seashore, statue, etch. What do you focus on?

It looks like you had a lovely trip...I hope I can go there some time!
