A service dog for Dresden
Posted: Fri Dec 18, 2015 12:58:51 amI'm just so excited and happy I wanted to share the news with everyone!
I found out after MFF that I'm going to be getting a service dog! She's going to be trained as a Psychiatric Service Dog and is going to be such a huge help and light in my life~ Her name is Piccalina (which means 'small' in Italian) and she's a 3 month old Rottweiler. So she might grow out of her name eventually, lol!
I've been speaking with the trainer and it looks like our initial evaluation is going to be set for January 13 after which Picca will enter her 4 stage training (beginning obedience, advanced obedience, disability skills, and public access). After that we hope to achieve a certification through the accredited paws4people foundation which will recognize us as a certified dog/handler team. I've got a GoFundMe set up to help with the training expenses so I'd love if you could all keep your fingers crossed that we meet our goal!
Also, if any of you have fundraised before I'd love to hear some ideas! I haven't since I did my first mission trip to Russia years ago and that was set up through my church so that made things kind of easy in a sense. So if you have cool and creative ideas that are good fundraising options I'd love if you would be willing to share! <3
Anyhow, I'll probably be updating this thread throughout our journey so I can share it with all of you! Something special like this is meant to be shared in my opinion~ Hope you're looking forward to lots of cute dog pictures, lol!
