trait style transfer

Sorry, I couldn't find the answer to this anywhere. I'm assuming that if one parent wyrm doesn't have a trait, the offspring ends up with a trait in the same style the other parent has. If I breed a wyrm with a trait with a specific style to one with the same trait in a different style (like horns or plates), how is the final result determined?
I'd guessed it would be a coin flip, but then I looked at the registry and saw a wyrm that ended up with an entirely different plate style than both of it's parents. It was an older wyrm, so there could have been a few rules changes between then and now.

Okay so for example say you breed a mosshoarder with a gem hunter. We run it through our wyrm mixer program to see which parent traits the baby gets. Those both carry horns really strongly so of course ta da baby gets horns. However to determine which style of horns we do a coin flip.
If a wyrm has entirely different plates it is likely because of a style update. For example newer leaf crawlers have leaf shaped plating (marbled leaves in the fall) while older just have oval plating.

Let's use plating as an example.
Example #1:
Parent A has leaf-style plating (XX).
Parent B has flat mushroom-gatherer style plating (XX).
The baby would have a 50/50 chance (coin flip) of receiving either type of plating (XX). You could also trait-token to ask for a specific type of plating.
Example #2
Parent A has leaf-style plating (XX).
Parent B has no plating trait.
The baby would receive the leaf-style plating (xX).

That explains it. One of the parents must have been made before the leaf style plating was added.
Thank you for the explanation.

Basically if you wanna have an idea of what they could get you go over to our wiki here and click on our wyrm mixer beta. Open the tabs to the potential parents and put their color, traits and WHA-BAM possible offspring outcomes!
