Heartmates

Do any of your wyrms have one? How did you find them? How do you feel about heartmates/do you wish one of your wyrms had one? Have you bred with your heartmate/has anything interesting come out of it?

Just out of curiosity. I was wondering how handlers take care of this. (I thought mine had a heartmate, but I realized the <3 -2 meant breedings, I think, and not heartmate since heartmates are a half heart with a word. Sorry for the confusion!)

There are currently two Wyrms with heartmates in the system.

http://twilightdays.org/wyrmwiki/index.php/Laochra
http://twilightdays.org/wyrmwiki/index.php/Brigid

These were both from the same group at FA: United (But not all heartmates will be from the same clutch/group!)
I believe they found each other just by posting about their Wyrms.

So far, there hasn't been a breeding season since these two were registered, so no one has bred heartmates together yet to see what sort of traits they get.

As for my own opinion on it, I think it's a really neat idea. I would love to someday get a Wyrm that has a heartmate, although I think I would worry that somehow the other handler wouldn't register them, or something. I just think it's another of those neat aspects that HopefulMonster has added to the game, and I can't wait to see more of them show up.

Yep..Laochra is mine!
We're breeding them this December season and both getting clutchmates..so we'll see what we get then. :D

Pft, oops. xD Well I guess that derails this discussion fairly quickly considering there aren't more heartmates for people to chime in about. Darn. Personally, I adore the idea. It's a nice sort of side thing Hopeful added and it adds a lot of possibility to what this 'something special' you get for heartmate breeding is.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but the thought occurred to me tonight while I was pondering what gender I might pick for my upcoming Standard...

What would happen if a bred Standard or larger was assigned a heartmate? (I assume the genders on the Tea-Cups are randomly assigned since I recall the option with bred Standards and larger was to allow the handlers the option of picking genders, so for Tea-Cups this wouldn't be an issue?) Would heartmate assignment take precedence over the "handler picks gender" idea, and the new Wyrms would arrive with assigned heartmates AND genders and all? Or would the handlers be individually contacted about gender preferences? Or will only convention/random-sold Wyrms have the opportunity for heartmates? Otherwise I'd think that if both handlers unknowingly picked the same gender, that might mess with the system a bit...

Unless none of the heartmates come from breeding. Would make sense to just make them random at cons and such instead of from breeding season.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that as a possibility. I'm guessing it's been left nebulous so that there's the option of having it go whichever (random) way the dice might fall, though I also imagine the future likelihood of both heartmates being registered would be higher from people who were already active participants. Admittedly, if I hadn't run into people (who directed me to the art show, and then in the art show itself) who explained to me what this whole crazy thing was about :D I might have just taken home my one cutie and forgotten about the rest of the game post-con.

There is a possibility, from my understanding, of Heartmates coming from the breeding season stock.

Setting standards (and larger) as 'undetermined' and letting people pick is a fairly new thing that we decided to do as a way of giving handlers who get the more expensive Wyrms having a bit more leeway with their Wyrms.

However, as Heartmates are a special/rare thing, I think if a Standard were to be assigned a heartmate, they probably would just come with a gender.
I might be wrong, but as Heartmates are so rare, I think most people would probably be okay with an assigned gender figuring they are getting the possibility of uber-special offspring.

I'd be ok with my stanadard and larger Wryms coming with gender preassigned if they had a heartmate.

I agree! I was considering flipping a coin for my upcoming Standard anyhow, since I kind of like the anticipation of being surprised by what I'm going to get out of the genetic cocktail shaker.
