Resizing images

I'm not very technologically literate and so I need some help resizing the files of my wyrms' registration pictures. Each photo is 2.6MB and they need to be 1MB or smaller to go on the wiki. I tried scaling down the image size by as much as 38% but that did not change the size of the file (I assume because of all the encrypted data in the photo). Could someone help me out?

Try saving them as different file types. I think .jpeg tends to be smaller than other types, like .png (which is my favorite).

My files were already .jpeg, but I found a solution! imageoptimizer.net did the trick

Generally, I would say that there is no need to have your image any larger than 600-800px in length.
We display images at 600px, so anything larger doesn't actually display larger or with any additional detail.
Additionally, I also suggest that while a nicely framed photo with a gorgeous background is lovely, it isn't great for a Wyrm profile image. Please, cut your images down to be of the Wyrm itself. The Wyrm should be roughly centered and there should not be a lot of background/blank space around the edges.
