Going on "vacation"... need things to do

Hey everyone! So I'm going on a week and a half to two week trip to Cleveland to have a minor neurosurgery procedure. The problem is I'm going to be slightly incapacitated and bored to death. I'm looking for ideas of things I can bring on my trip to entertain myself. I'll have my 3DS and laptop, but I have chronic eye pain (the reason for the surgery) so I can't look at anything with a screen for too long. I can't bring most of my art stuff since that would require a sewing machine or an oven. I also can't read books at all because of my pain. I listen to audio books but it's just not as satisfying and I get bored with it after a while. Anyone have ideas of how I can entertain myself?

If you like to sculpt, you could bring some air dry clay. No oven required. c: If you get bored with audio books maybe you could try out some podcasts. They can range from educational to comedic. You could also listen to music or meditate. There is also music that aids in meditation.
Hope that helps! And get well soon. :3

Air dry clay is a good thought, though I've never used it before. Is it that differnt from sculpey? Podcasts and meditation are good ideas too, thanks!

No problem! It's a bit different from sculpey. I've only used it once and that was a few years ago, but from what I remember it works pretty much the same as sculpey but it smells a little bit like glue and is a bit more squishy in texture rather than crumbly like sculpey can be.

Air dry clay is VERY squishy. It's almost like foam in texture. It sticks together upon contact like glue. It can be torn apart into chunks once dried/semi-dry. It stiffens as it dries too so if you plan on keeping it/re-using it have an air tight container handy. It usually comes in a package that you tear open that is not resealable.

also, I was thinking... If you like to make things, have you tried making those "paracord" bracelets/necklaces/whatnot that are rather popular lately? They don't require much attention to small details, in my opinion, so its a good craft to help pass time. You would probably not be able to finish the project there, since you'd need to melt/sear the ends of the paracord to keep it from unraveling, but it could be started. :) there are even little kits you can buy for it, and many different colors of paracord material available. Our A.C. Moore, Michael's Arts and Crafts, and JoAnn Fabrics all carry the kits and tons of colors and project books. :D

Maybe some fiber crafts like knitting/crochet or crossstitch? Audiobooks are also another good option. Podcasts too. If you haven't listened to "Welcome to Nightvale", it is awesome.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! Apparently my surgery might be getting postponed due to stupid doctor things. Ugh. It's still up in the air though so I'm still open for suggestions!

Macrame? Or gimp? (Gimp is also known as gymp, lanyards, etc.)
Not ridiculously hard or time consuming http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Box-Styled-Gimp
I used to do the circle one and interrupt it with a box stitch once in a while to get a zig zag :D
