Its still in beta, but there are both paid and free accounts. However, the paid does have a few advantages, such as the amount of starting currency you get. This includes both regular in-game currency (Slivers), and the games cash currency (Gems). You also get the advantage of a free "custom stone" to make a human character for when you start out if you choose the paid account. Also, the number of accounts seems to be kind of limited, more so with free accounts, so if you plan on joining, I'd do so sooner, rather than later. Not sure if they plan to close registrations at some points like FR (FlightRising) has been doing.
Anyway, it seems like a pretty fun game, so let me know if you join.
