Birthday Muffins! [Featuring Wu Xing, Tarryn and Raisa!]
So.. my birthday was last Saturday and some of my little furry friends were insistent on me getting cake. Unfortunately for them, there was no chocolate cake in the supermarket D: Not to be disappointing them, Aesse and I purchased some DIY muffin mix to make some birthday muffins instead C:
Momma Tarryn decided to show her daughter how to help cook, and since Aesse is here, Wu Xing decided that her worldly knowledge was worth imparting in the whole process.
First, we opened the box to get out the contents, and got out some other ingredients we were going to need.
"We're going to use all this muffin mix," says Tarryn assuredly.
"You're going to need these muffin cases too," says Wu Xing.
"Mom, was my egg this big?" asks Raisa. Tarryn takes one look at it and pulls quite the face. There was no way she would have delivered an egg that big! "Definitely not" she replies.
I remind them to read the instructions. Unfortunately, the only one with some dutch/french language skills is Wu Xing, and even she needs a little help from Aesse and I to read them out~
Tarryn laughs as the discarded muffin mix packet gets 'investigated'. Let's hope that packet really was empty or someone's going to need a bath!
While the big people go to put the ingredients in a mixing bowl, Wu Xing instructs Tarryn on how to lay them out. Or rather, the two argue over the best arrangement!
Even Raisa tries her hand at it, only to have Tarryn look on disapprovingly at her perfect layout being moved.
Raisa scampers away, leaving the grownup wyrms to it. She peers over the mixing bowl as we hold the electric whisk. She watches it going round and round and nearly gets a little dizzy!
Raisa, how many chocolate chips do we need? Oh.. a tablespoon of them. Well.. that doesn't seem like a lot..
Tarryn fetches a tablespoon. This is the right spoon, she says with a firm nod.
Raisa pouts. No way! This spoon is much better. We need a spoonful this big!
Well, better not upset the youngster.. we allow Raisa to fill up the large serving spoon with chocolate chips.
Even when we put those in, though, it still looks like not enough. Wu Xing takes the packet in her mouth and goes to add some more. Hmph!
Raisa watches the oozy yellow mixture being spooned into the cases. It already smells delicious! If only she could get a taste..
Alright, alright. Just one little lick. Quick, before Tarryn sees!
We filled the cases more than full, and still had leftover mixture. Wu Xing goes into my cupboards (seemingly she knows her way around them, I wonder if she's been exploring at night!) and pulls out a giant muffin case for the leftovers. It seems like she has an idea.
Wu Xing keeps a close eye on them as they bake. 20 minutes to be precise!
Once they are done we leave them aside to cool. By the time I return to them though it seems as though they have been busy making a surprise for me with Aesse. How thoughtful! I make sure to make a wish before I blow out the candle.
