Wedding present?

So I have no idea what a good wedding present is and my brother is getting married in march; Unfortunately, im not able to go to texas to see him and his fiancé due to the furry ones. Who no one else can be trusted with, I don't really have any idea. I spotted on etsy some wedding honey. But im not sure if that's a good gift since the only other wedding I've been to is my big sister's and I was quite young. So I don't remember things like that.

Any suggestions?

Generally wedding presents seem to be home related and a lot of couples have a "registry" of things they request. That being said thinking outside the box is good.

Something like the honey sounds like a great idea. Honey is versatile, thoughtful, and never really goes bad. You may also want to consider things like a chalkboard sticker that can be stuck to a cabinet for grocery lists, notes, etc. Those are inexpensive and sound like they'd be pretty easily shipped over to him. Just generally think something nice to have around the house (even hand made soaps) that don't expire, have several uses, and can be sent over to him without trouble.

I got married 3 years ago, the best gifts we got where money and gift cards.

I'm sorry if it sounds bad but the cash paid rent and helped us buy a new sofa, shelves and other things we wanted or needed that we didn't put down on the registry.

Unfortunaly we did have to return some gifts, we got 2 sets of dinnerware (even though we asked for one, the gift givers thought we'd need more to 'invite people over to have dinner' - so said my MIL, who explained to them after wards that we live in a small apt with no dineing room table..we kinda threw it out to make room for shelves for comic books XD, and we're not the type to invite people over for dinner-we'd go out into the city instead. The other things we had to return was a nice bedding set.... Which was FAR to big for our bed. They bought a king size, as they believed we where mistaken when I put down we had a full size bed. Yea, my mother later explained to them about small apt and that we wheren't wrong.

(Notice how the trend is the mothers 'corrected' the wrong gifts- we where never approached or asked but our mothers where asked about it.)

Of course the 3! Can openers came in handy XD. As we just threw out can opener 1, due to it breaking.

But if you really want to give a gift that will be helpful to a new couple, OMG money helps. It pays rent, helps pay for gas and food, can be saved up for their honeymoon or to fix unseen expenses (I'm looking at you cars).

Most couples won't put down the stuff they REALLY need, the big ticket items, sofas, mattresses, furniture, large home appliances-stoves-dishwaher-washing machine-dryer. Most are under the mindset that no one will buy them the 300 dollar ikea sofa they need in the color and style they want to replace the old ratty sofa that tries to eat people who sit on it.

Yeah; while wedding registries are helpful most couples would just appreciate a gift of money. THat way they can put it towards something they need that might be bigger or more expensive as Kai said. No one will register a $2000 mattresss. A lot of the items they might need will probably be on a registry which people will go to, the bride has probably also had a wedding shower and gotten a bajillion sets of sheets and towels and hosting gifts. You can't go wrong with money.

Agreeing with Kai and 'Komi here. When we got married last year (OMG it's been nearly a year already!!!), we didn't ask for anything specific as I had been living in my own house for some time and already had all the "homey" stuff one needs to set up a household. Most people gave money or gift cards which came in really handy. Gift cards also mail very easily since you can't make the wedding. Some of the most useful ones we received were Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Lowe's/Home Depot.

If the happy couple is going on a honeymoon, you can also see about surprising them with a nice dinner or a gift basket (I know cruises will let you buy little "extras" to gift, but you need to know the couple's specifics like the cruise number). I'm pretty certain that hotels would go along with a request for paying for room service one evening or something. (My in-laws *VERY* kindly paid for our entire honeymoon to the Florida keys, for example. That came in very handy since hubby wasn't able to work for nearly a year while we waited for his work visa and Green card.)

When i was going to get married b4 i cancle it i.was looking up appliances. Bc i had some big tickets in my storge when living on my own. So the coffee pot bender tostsr(note my room mates had the small stuff)

But if they have a registry that be best u give them exactly wgat tgey want ( put the receipt in it and Case they get double)

Something venue can cost $16,000 so money or gift cards are actually a good idea to because of all the money that they put into.

When we got married, Tempurpedic had an option where people could send contributions on behalf of the newlyweds for a new bed. That is all my husband and I wanted, but our mothers both insisted we had to start a Registry at one of the brand name stores. Long story short, we ended up with a ton of stuff we really didn't need, and only $75 towards the bed. Sad times.

The moral of the story is call your brother to find out what they REALLY want - Sometimes parents can be bullies.

Though I think Money is a good thing to give for a wedding it really depends on your family? Do they prefer monetary gifts or actual physical gifts? If i were getting married I would want something physical and unique. I think the wedding honey is a wonderful Idea!!

I gotta say I like the honey idea (perhaps honey + money? haha, call it a 'HONEYmoon fund' gift) but I am a total foodie and I love trying local foods.

If you feel funny about giving cash but you want to, you could look up some tutorials online for folding the money into cute shapes, like birds or roses or hearts. I could imagine a really cute little jar of honey with one of those old-timey wooden stick applicators tied up with a ribbon, and hanging from the ribbon is also one of those little mini envelopes like the size of those cards they put on flower arrangements, but inside the card there's a bill folded into the shape of a heart. Or a gift card with hearts on it. Valentine's is coming up so I'm sure a lot of the popular store options are going to have heart-decorated gift cards available soon...or you could find a relatively blank one and draw on the front with paint pens or Sharpies. <XD

Well I asked and they said anything I could get. My brother has been married before but he ended up setting up house with his fiancé a year or so before his dad died. but because he did, my brother owns his own house and property. So he no longer pays rent. I haven't heard yet about their honeymoon. and when I asked if they wanted something edible or useful they said either. The reason why I was looking up honey was because a couple years ago a wall in their house was filled with a large hive and he was hijacking their honey. He may still be... since I just saw a picture of it like a week ago when they were cleaning that area. Well not still its been cold enough they got ice this year but you know what I mean.

These are all really nice ideas, my big brother understands though that I don't really get much money. So I might opt for like some gourmet soap to surprise him although I don't really think he's into smelly stuff. :/ This gift buying thing seems really hard when you have no idea what your doing or if they'll really like or use it. :O
