With two new, male wyrms on the way, it suddenly occurred to me that it would probably be wise to prepare my girls for the shock to come. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I sat my girls down, and told them the news. The reactions were... Varied.Oula instantly knew what I was talking about, and looked rather relieved. Things can get... catty, with a squirm of all females. Vula and Trixie, though, were utterly lost. Trixie looked eager, but a bit bewildered. Vula, who hates anything new, gave me what can only be called the stink-eye.
So I tried to make it clearer. This was ineffective, not least because most wyrms aren't much good at reading.
So I'm not sure why I thought this would help.It didn't. At all.
I tried to simplify it a bit, make it relate to the situation at hand. The girls found their own names, but the new one was still entirely foreign.
The same proved true of this tactic. It had been an hour and a half by then. I had exhausted all options.
I had no choice but to bring out the real thing. He's a smart little guy, I have to give him that. He correctly identified Vula as the leading wyrm in my squirm. He's smart, but not yet wise, because then he tried to approach her.
He received a frosty reception.Trixie sensed her big sister's - fury? Dismay? Despair? - and came running. She hid where she knows it to be safest, and peeked at the newcomer from there.
Oula was far more welcoming.Khan and Vula seemed to hit it off straight away, and Khan engulfed my little lady in a big squeeze.
Trixie's never been one to miss out on the fun, though.Sweet boy. He was so, so gentle with her.
She decided that the Brother wasn't so bad, after all.If only I could get Vula to come to the same conclusion.
