I loved working some of the major public holidays (time and a half,woot!) I could'vetaken those days off without penalty if I had wanted. Luck would have it that NZ celebrates boxing day as the big gifting part so working Christmas was never a big deal, and New Years happened AFTER work so i could just grab my friends on the way home.

But yeah, "work holidays or you're fired" is harsh and terrible and is a nasty policy.

Hope I can catch something despite the jetlag!<X D

Mad props to you guys...I'm a member of a retail/customer service vent forum and so many folks are sharing their schedules for the week, and quite a number are working 4pm-12 am Thanksgiving Day, so they are forced to shift things around just so they can see family. It isn't right, but the big ticket companies don't seem to care.

I myself got lucky this year as a preschool teacher and only have to work 7-12 on Wednesday, then I get Thanksgiving and BF off, plus the weekend. Nonetheless I won't be setting foot in a store for a good two weeks or so anyway.
