Due to popular demand, our lovely coder Mercutio has added a chatbox to the forums. This may be a bit different than some of the chats people are used to, but please give it a chance and see how it goes. Right now, only those with actual titles will be allowed to use it. Thus, new people who have not yet been 'sorted' into their groups will not be able to use it. (Hopefully this will prevent chat-spamming.)
The main reasons we chose to do this rather than go with other chat sites/add-ons are the following:
- Other chat sites have no moderation abilities.
- Other chat sites may or may not have links to things that are NSFW which doesn't fit with our family friendly atmosphere.
- This is free as it is an open-source add-on to our bboard. (as opposed to most chatboxes which cost money)
- This has better security as it requires users to have an account on the forums to chat.
- This doesn't have the connectivity issues some other chats have, since it's through the web/forums.
Downsides?
- No voice chat.
- No video chat.
The downsides are pretty much there for anything other than using some outside service. So really, I think this is the best option.
So, feel free to try it out, talk to each other, socialize, see how things work.
All general rules of the forums apply to the chat, but there's also a separate little rules button, too.
NOTE: I am authorizing use of the chat one group at a time. If you don't see it at the bottom of the forums, then your group hasn't been done yet. This will take me about 20 minutes. Please be patient while I set up security.
